Nurse Practitioner – Pulmonary

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ANCP) will work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Qualified candidates will be board eligible/certified and have current NP licensure in New York State. The individual hired for this position will work under the direct supervision of the ICU attending physicians as well as with the ICU fellows to care for critically ill patients in an academic MICU and possibly an intermediate care unit and/or ventilator unit. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: obtaining patient histories; performing physical examinations; ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory, radiographic and other studies; formulating a diagnostic assessment; development of differential diagnoses; beginning management plans; and performing diagnostic, therapeutic and laboratory procedures in accordance with training and scope of practice; initiate subspecialty consultations or evaluations; counsel and instruct patients and their families; render appropriate care in the presence of a life-threatening emergency when a physician is unavailable and document all care rendered in accordance with MICU policies and procedures. Other responsibilities may include the teaching of Nurse Practitioner students, and the opportunity to pursue research projects. Perform additional duties as assigned.

General Minimum Qualifications: Requires Bachelors degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of experience, plus a current New York State NP and RN license.

Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Board certified ACNP, BCLS and ACLS certification required.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred and may substitute, in part, for experience.
